MCDH to sponsor residential, farm tire recycling event
WOODSTOCK — The McHenry County Department of Health (MCDH) will be sponsoring a no-charge tire recycling event for pre-registered McHenry County residents in November.
Registered participants may drop off tires smaller than 48 inches in diameter from 9 a.m. – noon on November 7 at the McHenry County Division of Transportation, 16111 Nelson Road in Woodstock.
Participants must wear a mask and maintain social distancing and are responsible for unloading tires that are to be recycled.
Solid Waste Manager Kelli Boeckmann said the event is a good opportunity for residents to reduce the potential for mosquito harborage on their property.
“Old, discarded tires can collect water where disease-causing mosquitos can breed,” Boeckmann said. “This no-cost opportunity allows residents to get rid of those potential breeding sites and reduce vector-borne illnesses like West Nile Virus.”
The following event restrictions apply:
Only McHenry County residents are eligible. Pre-registration is required by contacting MCDH at 815-334-4585.
A limited number of tires will be accepted. Participants will need to provide the type and number of tires to be dropped off when registering.
Tires must be removed from the metal rim and free of water, mud and other debris.
Tires accepted: Passenger Vehicle Tires, Motorcycle Tires, Small trailer and Smaller Sized Tires, Narrow Sprayer Tires, Utility/Farm Tractor Tires, Light Truck Tires, Semi Truck Tires, Rib Tires, Compact Tractor Tires and Hay Rack Tires.
Industrial, heavy equipment and floatation and commercial business tires will not be accepted.
No other types of recyclable materials or waste will be collected.
