McHenry County DOT reopens two bridges after reconstruction
HUNTLEY – Two bridges in McHenry County have been reopened to traffic after repairs were completed, according to the McHenry County Division of Transportation.
The $113,000 reconstruction of the bridge on Harmony Road over Coon Creek, about 10 miles west Huntley High School, involved replacement of two deck beams. The bridge had been closed since Oct. 2 for the work performed by Copenhaver Construction Inc. and paid for by motor fuel tax and RTA funds.
The Illinois Department of Transportation approved the bridge, which allowed it to be reopened to traffic without the weight restrictions that have been in effect.
The $2 million reconstruction of the West Solon Road bridge in Richmond Township involved the replacement of 15 deck beams.
The $171,000 project was completed by Alliance Contractors Inc., with the cost covered by township and county motor fuel tax funds. The bridge had been closed since May 1.
IDOT has approved the bridge for reopening with a load posting of 18/25/5 (18 tons for a single vehicle, 25 tons for 3-4 axels, 25 tons for 5+ axels).
The county DOT has posted drone videos of the reconstruction process of both bridges on its Facebook page.
According to the county DOT, the completion of the bridge projects, along with box culvert repairs on Randall Road and Miller Road, ends bridge work for the season.
