Huntley Police detain suspects wanted for retail and car theft
HUNTLEY – The Huntley Police Department issued a press release on March 1, describing an incident that took place at approximately 2:36 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27. According to the press release, the Huntley Police Department responded to a retail theft at the Walmart located at 12300 Illinois Route 47.
Upon responding to the incident, officers were advised that the suspects were fleeing the parking lot in a vehicle. A responding officer on scene was able to locate the vehicle matching the description given, and attempted to stop the vehicle around the Mill Street and Grove Street area. However, the occupants were able to flee on foot. It was discovered shortly after, that the vehicle was stolen out of Elgin.
While on the search for the fleeing suspects, officers were able to locate one of the men in a nearby garage, tempering with another vehicle. That male suspect was taken into custody at approximately 2:50 p.m., according to the press release.
A second male suspect was being sought with the assistance from the Lake in the Hills Police Department. A K-9 Unit from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office was also brought in to assist.
A resident reported seeing a person matching the description of the wanted suspect, take a bicycle from a residence around Timer Drive.
Suspicion was risen with another local resident when they spotted an individual wearing a tank top, which is unusual during this time of year. The resident reported the suspect to authorities where they were able to locate the suspect in the Sawgrass Drive area, a short time later.
Responding officers determined that the individual matched the description of the second wanted suspect, who was then taken into custody at approximately 3:19 p.m. that day.
The two men who were charged in the incident were:
Luis Arreola, age 35, from the 0-100 block of South Crystal Street in Elgin. He was charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding (Class 4 felony), as well as not having a valid driver’s license (Class A misdemeanor) and disobeying a stop sign (petty offense).
Damian Franco, age 31, of the 600 block of Grace, Elgin was charged with burglary (Class 2 felony) and possession of Methamphetamine (Class 3 felony). He was also charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding (Class 4 felony) as well as obstructing justice (Class 4 felony).
Both suspects were transported to McHenry County Jail. Bond for Arreola was set at $1,500 while Bond for Franco was set at $5,000.
