MCDH to expand vaccine eligibility on April 12

WOODSTOCK — The McHenry County Department of Health is announcing McHenry County residents who are 16 and older will be eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine at MCDH clinics beginning Monday, April 12.

A parent or guardian must accompany the minor to the first and second dose appointment and sign a consent form during both visits. Additionally, minors must present proof of birth date at the time of their appointment.

The extended eligibility is in line with State of Illinois’ vaccination plan that will open COVID-19 vaccine eligibility to all residents on Monday.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted emergency use authorization for the use of COVID-19 vaccine manufactured by Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson. Pfizer has been approved to be administered to people who are 16 and older. Moderna and Johnson & Johnson are approved for use by adults who are 18 and older.

Regardless of age, a photo ID and proof of residency or employment within McHenry County must be presented at a first-dose appointment. For those receiving the second dose, a photo ID and the vaccination card/record must be presented. If this information is not provided at the time of the appointment, MCDH reserves the right to deny you the vaccine.

“We have made great progress in getting residents vaccinated since we received our first doses at the end of December, and we are excited to be opening appointments to everyone age 16 and older,” said MCDH Public Health Administrator Melissa Adamson. “This expansion moves us closer to the goal of getting all eligible residents vaccinated as quickly as possible to help protect our community and loved ones from a potentially deadly virus.”

For information about where to get a vaccination in McHenry County, please visit MCDH’s Vaccine Locations page. To search for available COVID-19 vaccine appointments at an MCDH clinic, visit the COVID-19 Vaccine Registration page. Those without internet or who need assistance navigating the COVID-19 registration process should call MCDH’s COVID-19 Call Center at (815) 334-4045. The call center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

State and Federal partnerships with retail pharmacies are another option for receiving vaccine. Locations of participating pharmacies can be found at coronavirus.illinois.gov. Please check each location’s eligibility and scheduling requirements. Anyone without internet service or who needs assistance scheduling an appointment at a retail pharmacy can call the Illinois COVID-19 Vaccine Call Center at 1-833-621-1284. Those wishing to search based on vaccine manufacture should visit VaccineFinder.org.

“Everyone is encouraged to check the COVID-19 Vaccine Registration site frequently as new clinics and appointments are added regularly. We also encourage everyone to explore all options in the community to get vaccinated and take the first appointment that becomes available to them,” Adamson said.
