
Kane County Sheriff’s Office asks for the public’s assistance in locating a hit and run driver
The Kane County Sheriff’s Office announced on Sep. 13 that they are looking for assistance in locating a vehicle and driver involved in a hit and run crash that occurred just north of St. Charles.
The incident took place at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Sep. 13. Kane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the intersection of Illinois Route 25 and Gilbert Street in unincorporated St. Charles Township for a report of a hit and run traffic crash, according to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.
Upon further investigation, deputies learned that a 2020 Harley Davidson three-wheel motorcycle was traveling north on Rt. 25 and stopped at a red light at the intersection of Gilbert St.
A red or maroon-colored SUV was also traveling north on Rt. 25 and approached the motorcycle from behind at a high rate of speed. The SUV struck the motorcycle and fled the scene north on Rt. 25, stated the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver of the motorcycle, a 72-year-old St. Charles resident, was transported to an Elgin area hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.
Following the accident, the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene to assist Kane County Sheriff’s Office deputies with the investigation.
Investigators believe that the offending vehicle is a red or maroon color SUV, possibly a Jeep Cherokee with front driver’s side damage.
The Kane County Sheriff’s Office has not released any additional information regarding the vehicle or the driver at this time.
Deputies are working with area businesses to review surveillance videos with further updates to come.
