Woodstock Opera House surveys patrons on COVID-19 precautions
WOODSTOCK – The Woodstock Opera House located at 121 Van Buren Street sent out emails sometime in August, asking its patrons to share their opinions on certain COVID-19 mitigation strategies via an online anonymous survey.
Daniel Campbell, the managing director of the Opera House, was finally able to share the outcome of that survey.
The results demonstrate that more than 85% of responding patrons have been vaccinated against COVID-19 and more than 50% agree that proper health and safety precautions, such as masking, vaccinations, or COVID test requirements would further encourage participation in events and activities at the Opera House.
The survey received 706 responses from individuals ranging from ages younger than 18 years old to 65 and older.
Participants aged 65 and older made up approximately 48% of the responses, making it the largest group in the Opera House’s survey.
Individuals were asked a series of five questions ranging from topics on vaccination status to attendance if certain COVID-19 mitigations are instilled at the Opera House.
About 80% of survey participants indicated that they would attend an Opera House program that required individuals to be fully masked during the event. Only approximately 20% of respondents stated they would not attend an event that required them to be fully masked.
When asked about proof of vaccination being required to attend an event, 77% of respondents said they would still attend the event, with only 23% saying they would not attend an event requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
“The Opera House will take this information into consideration as we continue to craft our response and develop action plans to the COVID-19 pandemic. We thank all responders to our survey for their participation and look forward to continuing to provide our audiences with safe and entertaining programming,” the Opera House said in a statement.
To date, the Opera House is following Gov. JB Pritzker’s state mandate requiring all guests ages two and older, regardless of vaccination status, to wear masks while in Opera House facilities, except while eating or drinking.
The Opera House also lists events on its website where additional policies will be required of patrons before they are allowed to attend those certain events.
Such policies include demonstrating proof of vaccination for patrons ages 12 and older upon entry to the Opera House as well as providing proof of either a negative COVID-19 PCR test or a negative COVID-19 antigen test taken within six hours of the start of the performance for guests 12 years and older who are unvaccinated.
“Any Patron, Performer or Volunteer that does not follow established protocols, will not be permitted entry or will be asked to leave the theater,” the Opera House states on their website.
Only the play DEATHTRAP that runs through Oct. 17 and Elf: The Musical that begins showing on Nov. 19 and continues through Dec. 5, are listed as events that require additional policies for admittance in the Opera House.
Individuals who choose not to abide by the Opera House’s guidelines who have already purchased a ticket before Oct. 1, may choose to either donate their ticket purchase, exchange tickets for a future event or request a refund by contacting [email protected].
