Huntley High School issues a ‘hold in place’ lockdown for students
HUNTLEY – On Oct. 6, the Huntley Police Department announced that at approximately 2:34 p.m., Huntley High School instilled a “hold in place” order to which no students, staff, or parents were permitted to leave or enter the school building.
Transportation services and dismissal were postponed, with the Huntley Police Department stating that access to the campus was not being permitted at that time.
Rumors began circulating from concerned parents about a student’s mother that had supposedly contacted Huntley High School administrators making claims of a student that had brought a gun into the building.
Huntley High School has not released a statement confirming or denying such rumors, however, at 3:15 p.m., the Huntley Police Department posted an update to their Facebook page stating that collaboration efforts with Huntley Community School District 158 (D158) and Huntley High School determined that there was no credible threat to student or staff safety at Huntley High School.
Students were dismissed shortly after, with buses being allowed to approach the campus to transport students home.
Officials directed traffic on Harmony Road to accommodate buses, causing potential delays.
Bus riders were directed to report to the East Gym of the Huntley High School campus and car riders were asked to go to Door 1. Student drivers were allowed to be released to their vehicles.
In an email to families, Huntley High School Principal Marcus Belin stated that dismissal procedures were conducted as normal outside of the building once the lockdown was lifted.
He also explained that after-school activities would continue as they would normally be conducted. Students that did not have scheduled after-school activities were asked to leave the campus.
The Huntley Police Department posted another update confirming that Leggee Elementary School located at 13723 Harmony Road in Huntley, had also conducted a lockdown order which they call a “Secure and Teach”.
The elementary school’s lockdown was lifted at 3:20 p.m. Students were allowed to be dismissed from the school building at that time, with car riders to be dismissed in the usual fashion.
My Huntley News will continue to post updates as more news becomes available.
