Update: Victim of a Kane County hit and run accident succumbs to injuries
HUNTLEY – My Huntley News had previously reported on 72-year-old St. Charles resident Ron Siwula who was the victim of a Sep. 13 hit and run accident at the intersection of Gilbert Street in unincorporated St. Charles.
Ruben Campuzano, 47, of the 500 block of Harrison Street in Elgin, was taken into custody as the offender responsible for the hit and run accident after detectives pursued a lead on Sep. 16 from an independent witness.
Siwula was transported to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Donna LaMantia, a family member of Siwula’s, had initially set up a GoFundMe account for Siwula and his wife to help the couple pay for medical bills and living expenses.
On Oct. 2, LaMantia posted an update on Siwula’s GoFundMe page that Siwula had unfortunately passed away on Sep. 30.
An obituary posted to the DuPage Cremations, Ltd. and Funeral Chapel located at 951 W. Washington Street in West Chicago, stated that Siwula had a passion for travel and would often take motorcycle trips around the United States.
“He was a member of the Son’s of the American Legion Post 1084 and also a member and Past Director of the Legion Riders. He was the successful and respected owner of Energy Savers Remodeling. Above all, Ron enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and dog, Lola,” the obituary stated.
The Roselle American Legion Riders Post 1084 announced on their Facebook page that a gathering for Siwula will take place on Saturday, Oct. 9 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the American Legion Post located at 344 E. Maple Avenue in Roselle.
“This is an opportunity to say goodbye to Ron and offer your condolences to Jackie [Siwula], Eddy [Siwula], and family,” the Roselle American Legion Riders Post 1084 posted on their Facebook page.
The event at the Roselle American Legion is not a funeral service or a wake. It is simply an event to memorialize Siwula.
Individuals may still donate to Siwula’s GoFundMe account by visiting gofund.me/55f016c9.
Siwula’s family is deeply humbled by the support of community members and is grateful that the Kane County Sheriff’s Office found the offender responsible for the accident despite the tragic loss of life.
“Please keep Ron, Jackie, and their entire families in your prayers,” LaMantia wrote in her Oct. 2 update on Siwula’s GoFundMe page.
