D158’s Heineman Middle School presents Disney’s Moana Jr. as the first musical of the theater season
HUNTLEY – Huntley Community School District 158 (D158) announced that Heineman Middle school, located at 725 Dr. John Burkey Drive in Algonquin, will be starting off the 2021-2022 theater season with performances of Disney’s Moana Jr.
The musical performances will take place on Oct. 23-24 in the Performing Arts Center at Huntley High School (13719 Harmony Road).
According to the All About Theater website, Disney’s Moana Jr. is a 60-minute musical adaptation of the 2016 Disney animated film, Moana.
“Based on the book by Susan Soon He Stanton, with music/orchestrations adapted and arranged by Ian Weinberger, Moana Jr. features the beloved songs from the 2016 Disney animated film, written by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa’i, and Mark Mancina, including ‘How Far I’ll Go,’ ‘Shiney,’ and ‘You’re Welcome,’” said an Oct. 15 statement from D158.
The musical will tell the heartwarming, coming-of-age story of the strong-willed female protagonist Moana as she sets sail across the Pacific to save her village and discover the truth about her heritage.
“Moana and the legendary demigod Maui embark on an epic journey of self-discovery and camaraderie while learning to harness the power that lies within. With empowering messages of bravery and selflessness, Moana Jr. is sure to bring out the hero within each of us,” D158 said.
Heineman’s production of Disney’s Moana Jr. will be directed by Emily Moore, Pam Jorgensen, and Rick Rohde. The performances will be on Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
