Lake in the Hills joins national Lights On Afterschool celebration
LAKE IN THE HILLS – The Village of Lake in the Hills (LITH) will be joining what is known as the national Lights On Afterschool celebration with an event at the LITH Village Hall, located at 600 Harvest Gate, on Thursday, Oct. 28 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The event is meant to shine a light on the importance of after school programming.
The Village’s celebration will be one of more than 8,000 events across the nation and will stand as one of the 40 event sites in Illinois.
LITH officials encourage parents and children, members of the media, neighbors, Village employees, school officials, and other community members to attend the event to support safe and stimulating after school programming.
“Lights On Afterschool showcases the benefits that after school programming provides to working families throughout our community,” said Recreation Supervisor Kristi Brewer. “Afterschool programs offer parents a safe, educational environment for their children and provide children with opportunities to grow academically, discover new interests, and socialize with their peers.”
Event participants will be able to explore 30 activity tables, visit the Beyond the Bell at Lincoln Prairie Elementary School student showcase, enjoy activities for parents and children, take on the Lights on Afterschool Light Bulb Challenge, and more.
To attend the event, participants must reserve their free tickets online through the Village’s CommunityPass page, by phone at 847-960-7400, or in person at the Village Hall.
However, attendees are also welcome to drop in on the day of the event.
The LITH Recreation Division is a trusted resource for recreational opportunities, facilities, parks, and open spaces for safe, affordable fun throughout the Village of Lake in the Hills.
Community members are encouraged to browse the Fall 2021 Program and Event Guide online.
According to the Lights On Afterschool website, their program was launched in October 2000 by the Afterschool Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that all children have access to quality, affordable programs.
