Harry D. Jacobs High School under soft lockdown due to wanted suspect threat at Holiday Inn in Algonquin
ALGONQUIN – At 10:53 a.m. on Oct. 27, the Algonquin Police Department personnel responded to the Holiday Inn Express (2595 Bunker Hill Drive) for a report of suspicious activity.
Officers determined during their investigation that a guest of the hotel was wanted on a felony arrest warrant.
According to a press release issued by the Algonquin Police Department, officers had attempted to make contact with the subject, however, he refused to answer the door of his hotel room and indicated that “he would resist officer’s attempts to take him into custody.”
Members of the Algonquin Police Department were able to secure the scene, with the subject being contained.
The Algonquin Police Department asserted that there does not appear to be an immediate threat to the public at this time. The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is also assisting with apprehending the subject.
“Due to the proximity of the incident location to H.D. Jacobs High School, contact has been made with the Community Unit School District 300 administration and they have been informed of the incident,” the press release indicated.
H.D. Jacobs High School administrators sent an email out to parents at approximately 12:00 p.m. stating that “Jacobs High School is entering a shelter in place, as a precautionary measure, due to reports of an incident at a location near the school.”
The email continued, “Please know there is no threat or incident inside Jacobs High School and the shelter in place is being implemented as a precaution. During the shelter in place, students and staff will not be allowed to exit the building and individuals will not be able to enter the building.”
School administrators ended their statement by telling parents they will update further when the shelter in place has been lifted.
The Algonquin Police Department is asking members of the public to avoid the area of the Holiday Inn Express.
As the situation is still developing, My Huntley News will provide further updates as they become available.
