Elgin man charged with first-degree murder in a double homicide case
ELGIN – Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser announced on Nov. 3, that 31-year-old Joaquin Lopez-Villagomez of the 900 block of Congdon Avenue in Elgin was charged with the following:
Six counts of First-Degree Murder, a Class M felony; one count of Attempt First Degree Murder, a Class X felony; two counts of Home Invasion, a Class X felony; one count of Unlawful Restraint, a Class 4 felony; and one count of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, a Class 4 felony.
Kane County prosecutors allege that on the morning of Oct. 25, Lopez-Villagomez and other offenders entered an apartment in the 200 block of N. Jackson Street in Elgin.
Multiple occupants resided in the apartment Lopez-Villagomez and other intruders entered into, where it was alleged that one of the three suspects then fired multiple rounds inside the residence, striking three people.
My Huntley News reported that one of those victims struck by the gunfire was later pronounced deceased upon his arrival to AMITA St. Joseph Hospital.
The Kane County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased subject as Francisco Reyes-Hernandez, 38, of Schaumburg.
Two other residents of the apartment were also transported to area hospitals. One of the men that had sustained a serious injury has since passed away, according to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.
The third victim sustained what appeared to be a non-life-threatening gunshot wound which he was treated for at a local hospital.
Mosser stated that Lopez-Villagomez appeared in Kane County bond court on Nov. 3, where Kane County Judge Julia Yetter set his bail at $5 million with 10% ($500,000) to apply for bond.
Lopez-Villagomez’s next court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Nov. 5 in courtroom 311 for a motion to revoke the defendant’s bond on a case that is pending at the Kane County Judicial Center.
The pending case is charged as “Armed Violence,” said Mosser.
