McHenry County Division of Transportation unveils ‘McHenry County Moves 2050’ Plan website
MCHENRY COUNTY – The McHenry County Government announced on Nov. 8 that the McHenry County Division of Transportation (MCDOT) has a goal of working with the public to get residents involved in planning the future of transportation in McHenry County.
“McHenry County Moves 2050 is our countywide, long-range transportation plan to examine the ways that people and goods move in our area and develop solutions that will make it easier for everyone and everything, to get where they need to go,” said MCDOT in a Nov. 8 statement.
MCDOT just launched a new website, www.McHenryCountyMoves2050.com, to make it easy for the public to learn more, and to participate to ensure that the final plan reflects the community’s transportation priorities.
“We haven’t fully updated our long-range transportation plan (LRTP) since the adoption of the 2040 LRTP back in 2014 and a lot has changed since then. McHenry County created new sub-plans to help improve our system and improve how we design, plan, construct and maintain our facilities,” MCDOT wrote on their McHenry County Moves 2050 website.
The Division of Transportation hosted a virtual informational meeting on Nov. 10 to discuss more details about their long-range transportation plan.
However, even if residents were not able to attend the live presentation, MCDOT states that they will have plenty of other opportunities to learn about the project and provide feedback.
Based on their timeline, MCDOT plans to engage stakeholders and the public to evaluate current transportation conditions until at least the summer of 2022.
During that time, MCDOT will develop a draft plan in which by the spring of 2023, they will gather input on the draft plan from community members to include some additional updates.
MCDOT plans to present its final LRTP to the McHenry County Board for review, approval, and adoption by June 2023.
Residents are encouraged to provide feedback on several transportation priorities including safety, reliable roadway travel, public transit, travel options for bicycles and pedestrians, and more.
“We will be coordinating with residents, businesses, stakeholders, and elected officials throughout this process. With your help, we will identify a list of projects and policies that address transportation access, mobility, and needs of McHenry County residents and businesses through 2050,” said MCDOT.
Visitors to the website can contribute feedback through an online public forum, an engagement survey to learn how they get around, and an interactive comment map that allows visitors to pin their thoughts on transportation at specific county locations.
Website visitors are also able to view comments from other community members who have shared their thoughts on transportation improvements.
To find out more about the 2050 LRTP, residents can visit the McHenry County Moves 2050 website.
