Carpentersville man sentenced to 45 years in prison for child sex abuse charges wanted on an arrest warrant
KANE COUNTY – Kane County Judge Alice C. Tracy officially sentenced 38-year-old Constantino Vasquez-Juan of Carpentersville to 45 years of imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC).
According to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, back in early November, a Kane County jury convicted Vasquez-Juan of the offenses of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony, and grooming, a Class 4 felony.
Kane County Assistant State’s Attorneys Matthew Rodgers and Stacy Wittman presented evidence that between April 2019 and September 2019 Vasquez-Juan sexually abused the victim, who was younger than 17 years old.
Additionally, Rodgers and Wittman alleged that Vazquez-Juan coerced the victim to take sexually explicit photographs of herself and give them to him.
The sentence is three years for each count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse to be served consecutive to one another, and three years for the grooming count, to be served concurrent to the sexual abuse sentences for a total of 45 years.
Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser states that as of Jan. 20, Vasquez-Juan’s location is unknown.
Vasquez-Juan last appeared in court back in early March 2021. He was able to post a $7,500 bond on Nov. 17 and was subsequently released from custody.
Judge Tracy issued an arrest warrant upon learning that Vasquez-Juan failed to appear in court on Oct. 29 for his final pre-trial hearing.
“Prosecutors argued, and Judge Tracy agreed, that based on the severity of the abuse and the defendant’s unwillingness to face justice, Vasquez-Juan should serve the 15 sexual abuse sentences consecutively and not concurrently,” stated the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.
The trial and hearing took place despite his absence, according to Mosser.
“My thanks to ASAs Rodgers and Wittman of the Kane County Child Advocacy Center for their diligent work in prosecuting this case, to CAC victim advocate Andrea Nava for her support to the victim and family, and to CAC investigator Tim Bosshart and the Carpentersville Police Department for their thorough investigation,” said Mosser.
In addition to his prison term, Vasquez-Juan must register for life as a sexual offender under the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.
Per Illinois law, Vasquez-Juan is eligible for day-for-day sentencing, where he receives credit for 415 days served in the Kane County jail.
