ALGONQUIN – On Jan. 27, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office issued a community alert warning locals to avoid the Algonquin Dollar Tree located at 1402 E. Algonquin Road due to a large police presence.

At approximately 1 p.m. that Thursday, Sheriff’s Office investigators followed 45-year-old Carlo V. Yescas-Noriega from his residence located on the 2000 block of Limestone Lane in Carpentersville to the parking lot of the Algonquin Road Dollar Tree store location.

Yescas-Noriega was wanted on an outstanding theft warrant.

“As Investigators approached him, he attempted to flee and was ultimately apprehended inside the store, at which time Yescas-Noriega provided a false name and identification,” said the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office in a press release. “During his attempt to flee, Investigators located 114 grams of suspected cocaine that he tried to hide on a store shelf.”

While investigators collected evidence, the Dollar Tree store was temporarily closed for a couple of hours. The Sheriff’s Office states that no employees or customers were involved in the incident and no injuries were reported.

Following the recovery of the cocaine at the scene of the Dollar Tree, a search warrant was conducted at Yescas-Noriega’s residence, with the assistance of the Carpentersville Police Department.

After the search warrant, an additional 18.5 grams of cocaine, 59.5 grams of cannabis, drug packaging materials, a handgun, and a shotgun were seized from the residence, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

A 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe was also seized as a result of his arrest.

Yescas-Noriega is currently incarcerated at the McHenry County Adult Correctional Facility in Woodstock as of Jan. 28.

He was charged with a Class X felony for “Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver 100g-400g (Cocaine);” a Class 1 felony for “Possession of a Controlled Substance 100g-400g (Cocaine); and a Class A felony for “Resisting or Obstructing a Peace Officer.”

Yescas-Noriega’s bond was set at $250,000. He is slated to appear at his next court date on Feb. 1 at 9 a.m. in Courtroom 302 of the McHenry County Courthouse.
