KANE COUNTY – On Feb. 3, Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser announced that 28-year-old Jason M. Ostrego was being charged with armed violence, a Class X felony; two counts of aggravated battery with great bodily harm, a Class 3 felony; and two counts of aggravated battery using a deadly weapon, a Class 3 felony.
Kane County prosecutors allege that on the night of Jan. 31, Ostrego was in a bar located in the 1000 block of North Liberty Street in Elgin.
Ostrego began an argument with another patron and was subsequently asked to leave the bar.
While outside in the parking lot, Ostrego proceeded to stab one victim in the chest and slashed another victim in the face with a pocket knife.
The victim that was stabbed remains hospitalized, while the other individual was treated at a hospital and released.
Mosser states that Ostrego appeared in Kane County bond court on Feb. 2. Kane County Judge Julia Yetter set his bail at $200,000 with 10% ($20,000) to apply for bond.
Judge Yetter set Ostrego’s next court appearance for 9 a.m. on Feb. 9 in Courtroom 305 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
The case is currently being investigated by the Elgin Police Department.
