Man sentenced to six years in prison for an armed Lake in the Hills home invasion
MCHENRY COUNTY – McHenry County State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally announced that Tavares L. Fowler, 27, of the 100 block of Skyline Drive in Carpentersville was officially sentenced to six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections by Judge Robert Wilbrandt.
Fowler pleaded guilty to Residential Burglary, a Class 1 felony, according to Kenneally.
On Jan. 20, Fowler drove another man and two juvenile males, a 17-year-old and a 14-year-old, to a residence located in the 0-100 block of Grant Avenue in Lake in the Hills.
Police officers responded to the home invasion at approximately 10:30 p.m., where the victim reported having seen multiple armed male subjects forcibly entering the property through the front door.
“Fowler knew the resident of the home and knew that valuable items were in the home. At Fowler’s direction, the two juveniles entered the home, while the resident was home, and stole a computer,” said Kenneally.
The victim did not sustain any injuries during the robbery and was able to inform officers about a dark sedan the suspects had fled away in.
Not long after, police officers were able to locate a 2000 Honda Accord that matched the description of the vehicle used to flee the residence after the home invasion.
Following a traffic stop on the suspected vehicle, officers were able to locate the stolen property belonging to the victim along with a BB gun that was used in the robbery.
All suspects were placed into custody without incident.
In addition to the aggravated robbery and theft charges, the 17-year-old juvenile was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, as well as was charged with criminal defacement for damaging a Lake in the Hills Police Department holding cell.
Fowler was being held at the McHenry County Adult Correctional Facility in Woodstock on a $100,000 bond until his final sentencing hearing that took place on Feb. 1.
Fowler was originally being charged with 4 total felonies and one Class A misdemeanor but was able to work out a plea deal with Brian Miller of the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office, who was the attorney who prosecuted the case.
