Kane County Coroner’s Office identifies two fatalities at the scene of a vehicle crash
BATAVIA – On Feb. 6, at approximately 7:15 p.m., Batavia Police Department officers responded to the 700 block of W. Fabyan Parkway for a report of a motor vehicle crash requiring extraction.
Involved in the accident was a maroon 2017 Ford Mustang and a white 2012 Kia Optima.
Batavia Police Deputy Chief Eric Blowers stated that the initial investigation revealed that the Ford Mustang was traveling westbound on W. Fabyan Pkwy when it crossed into the eastbound traffic lanes.
“The Ford Mustang was struck on the passenger side by the front of the Kia Optima. The Ford Mustang came to rest in the parkway on the south side of the roadway. The Kia Optima came to rest partially on the roadway and parkway near the Ford Mustang,” said Blowers.
The Kia Optima had three occupants at the time of the crash, which were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The two occupants of the Ford Mustang were pronounced deceased at the scene.
At around 9 p.m., Kane County Coroner’s Office personnel arrived on the scene to transport the two deceased individuals to the morgue for identification and continued investigation.
Following an autopsy on Feb. 7, the driver of the Ford Mustang was identified as 21-year-old Farzin Khamis-Zadegan of the 1200 block of E. Wilson Street, Batavia.
The passenger was identified as Brian Froehlich, 18, of the 2N400 block of Colt Drive in Elburn.
The preliminary cause of both deaths was multiple injuries due to a motor vehicle crash, according to the Kane County Coroner’s Office.
Toxicology samples were collected and sent to a forensic lab for further testing.
The Batavia Police Department stated that no citations have been issued regarding the accident.
Mia Estrada, a friend of the two deceased individuals, set up a GoFundMe fundraiser to assist the families of the victims.
“They were some of my best friends. They were also sons, brothers, classmates, best friends, car mates, and family to many. I hope to raise money to help out the two [families] that are grieving during these hard times,” wrote Estrada on the GoFundMe page. “We thank you all for the love and support.”
The Batavia Police Department is asking anyone with information on the accident to contact their department.
