A look behind the company that helped deliver the Huntley Area Public Library’s new and unique design
HUNTLEY – By now, residents have probably taken the opportunity to explore the newly renovated and expanded Huntley Area Public Library (HAPL) that fully opened to the public on Feb. 7.
From a vibrant children’s library to major updates in technological features, the HAPL has truly made efficient use of its planning phase to be able to act as a hub where adults, teens, and children can use the physical spaces and tools to create, gather, learn and make connections.
The improvements to the HAPL were made possible by a $12.9 million bond that was approved by community voters back in April 2019 following a successful referendum campaign.
Having secured the funds for HAPL’s improvement project, the library now needed a reliable company to bring the plans to fruition. That’s where Wold Architects and Engineers came into play.
Wold Architects and Engineers is a full-service planning, architecture and engineering firm that is also a local leader in government architecture and is no stranger to the Huntley community.
The growth-oriented company was the firm responsible for renovating Huntley High School’s old gymnasium into a Learning Resource Center (the Hub) that consists of a lofted “Idea Lab” as well as student-centric micro-environments.
What makes Wold Architects and Engineers so unique is that in the case of the HAPL’s project, the architect in charge of the renovations engaged with staff, local representatives, and stakeholders through an “Innovation Day” to better understand the wants and needs of community members and design an engaging hub of learning, creativity, and connection.
“We’re proud of this newly renovated and expanded library and are grateful for the opportunity to work with the Huntley community again to create a space that will serve those who live here for many years to come,” said Roger Schroepfer, AIA, LEED AP, and partner at Wold Architects and Engineers. “The library will be a hallmark of the Huntley community, and we’re pleased we could bring the Huntley Area Library District’s vision to life.”
Additionally, Wold worked alongside HAPL staff to obtain more grants to fund the project.
“Our new and improved library is the perfect gathering space for the community, and the dedication of the stakeholders involved is reflected in every detail,” said Frank Novak, director of the HAPL. “We look forward to celebrating the building’s opening with all who have contributed to the success of this important project.”
