D158 names new Mackeben Elementary School principal for the 2022-23 school year
HUNTLEY – The Huntley Community School District 158 (D158) Board of Education (BOE) recently approved Marcie Marzullo as their final selection to take over the role as the new principal at Mackeben Elementary School (800 Dr. John Burkey Drive, Algonquin).
Marzullo’s hiring was officially approved at the Feb. 10 D158 BOE meeting after a thorough search process that included a field of many qualified candidates, according to a statement from the district.
Marzullo is no stranger to elementary school education, as she has displayed her leadership abilities since 2015 by serving as the principal at Ronald D. O’Neal Elementary School located in Elgin Area School District U-46.
“There, she fostered a welcoming learning environment for all students and engaged with families in order to develop a strong connection to the community,” said Alex LeMoine, D158’s director of communications and public relations. “Marzullo has also established herself as an advocate for all students while spearheading the implementation of student-led conferences, introducing inclusive teaching practices, and analyzing student data to inform teaching strategies in her previous roles.”
Mackeben Elementary’s search to fill its leadership role began due to the school’s current principal having accepted a new position as the director of elementary curriculum at the district’s administrative office.
Paula Moan, the current Mackeben principal, is slated to begin her new role after the 2021-22 school year, however, she and Marzullo will collaborate over the remainder of the school year to ensure a smooth and positive transition when D158 welcomes students at the start of the 2022-23 school year.
“We were impressed with Mrs. Marzullo’s passion for students, diverse background, and her enthusiasm to continue the culture of excellence that is so apparent at Mackeben,” said D158 Superintendent Scott Rowe. “We are also immensely thankful to the search committee and to all the members of the staff who have worked to support this search process and believe we have truly found the right fit for our families and staff.”
Additionally, Marzullo brings further administrative and classroom experience to the district by having also served as a bilingual and ESL program director, an ELL interventionist, a literacy instructional coach, and a special services teacher to name of few of the job roles she’s held throughout her career.
“In these positions, she remained steadfast in her goals to foster a student-centered culture through social-emotional learning tools and targeted academic initiatives,” said LeMoine in a Feb. 11 press release.
Marzullo received her Bachelor of Science degree in education from Eastern Illinois University and has a Masters degree in education from National-Louis University.
