Elgin Police Department seeks the public’s assistance in identifying a vehicle involved in a hit and run accident
ELGIN – On Sunday, Feb. 13, Elgin Police officers responded to an accident that occurred at approximately 12:50 p.m. in the area of Varsity and Maroon Drive in Elgin.
The Elgin Police Department’s Traffic Division has been asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a black-colored vehicle that was allegedly responsible for striking an elderly man while he was on his afternoon walk.
The news was publicly shared by the victim’s grandson Sebastian Philip, who has also updated that his grandfather was in stable condition as of Feb. 14, though has a long road to recovery ahead of him.
Some eagle-eyed residents pointed out that the vehicle in question appeared to possibly be a 2018 or older model black Dodge Durango.
Philip later confirmed that the vehicle in the photos shown to the public by the Elgin Police Department was indeed identified as a black Dodge Durango by department investigators.
However, police couldn’t identify the exact model (R/T, SRT, etc.) of the Dodge Durango, as well as were not able to get a clear image of its license plate.
Police officers did point out that the vehicle’s hood was shown as having a large center scoop.
The Elgin Police Department is asking anyone with information that may assist in the investigation of this incident to contact the Traffic Division at 847-289-2660.
Individuals may also text a tip by sending the text message “ELGINPD” to 847411, while also making sure to include the tip information within the text message.
