Two men face attempted murder and gun charges after an Elgin shooting incident
ELGIN – Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser announced that she has officially charged Demarques D. Enochs, 25, of the 2900 block of Flournoy Avenue in Chicago, and Taviris D. Paul, 29, of the 400 block of Sherman Avenue in Elgin, each with the following offenses:
Attempt first-degree murder, a Class X felony; aggravated battery with a firearm, a Class X felony; and armed robbery with a firearm, a Class X felony.
According to the Elgin Police Department, on March 3, at approximately 11:57 a.m., officers responded to the 1200 block of Fleetwood Drive in Elgin for a reported shooting.
Upon their arrival at the residence, officers located a male subject who was suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was subsequently transported to an area hospital.
Mosser alleges that on the day of the incident, the victim saw Enochs and Paul stealing his property from his home.
When the victim confronted the two offenders, the men decided to shoot the victim in the chest and flee the scene.
Following their arrest, Enochs and Paul appeared in Kane County bond court, where bail for each man was set at $750,000 with 10% ($75,000) to apply for bond.
However, seeing as Enochs has two other charges against him, each with different bail amounts set, his total bail now stands at $852,300 with 10% ($85,230) to apply for bond.
The two men appeared in court on March 9, with Paul’s next court date scheduled to take place on March 31 in Courtroom 305 of the Kane County Judicial Center, while Enochs will appear in court again on March 24 in the same location as Paul.
Both men are still currently incarcerated at the Kane County Adult Justice Center in St. Charles.
As a known Aurora street gang member, this isn’t Enochs’ first run-in with the law.
Back in 2019, Enochs was charged with six total felonies relating to unlawful use and possession of a weapon, as well as one felony relating to resisting a police officer.
Former Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon alleged at the time, that on the night of Nov. 25, 2019, Enochs was discovered to be in possession of a loaded, uncased Luger 9mm C9 handgun while riding in a 2015 black Nissan Sentra in Aurora.
Additionally, Enochs did not have a valid Firearms Owners Identification (FOID) card.
When an Aurora Police officer attempted to arrest Enochs, he struck the officer with a tree branch, causing injury.
