McHenry man found guilty of a 2018 drug-induced homicide that killed his sister
MCHENRY — On March 30, McHenry County State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally announced that Christopher C. Crimaldi, 45, of the 1900 block of North Orleans Street in McHenry, was officially convicted of two counts of drug-induced homicide and two counts of delivery of a controlled substance following a final deliberation by a jury trial.
Christopher was taken into custody shortly after McHenry Police Department officers responded to a call on August 31, 2018, at his apartment.
45-year-old Heather Crimaldi of Freeport, Christopher’s sister, was found unresponsive and later pronounced deceased as a result of smoking crack cocaine and snorting heroin mixed with fentanyl.
Authorities, at the time, alleged that William C. Anderson of the 26100 block of West Lakeview Avenue in Ingleside, sold Christopher crack cocaine and heroin laced with fentanyl.
Christopher then proceeded to supply the drugs to his sister, which ultimately caused her death.
Anderson was eventually charged with seven counts of drug-induced homicide and three counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance. He was already in police custody for other drug-related charges in Lake and Cook counties.
The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office reached a plea deal with Anderson back on March 19 of last year, where he agreed to plead guilty to one count of drug-induced homicide in exchange for the dismissal of all of his other convictions.
Anderson was sentenced to serve six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. He is required to serve 75% of his sentence under the truth in sentencing guidelines.
Christopher was initially charged with seven counts of drug-induced homicide, but as with Anderson, McHenry County Assistant State’s Attorneys Matthew Brodersen and Brian Miller were able to work out a plea deal to reduce his charges.
McHenry County Circuit Court Judge Michael Coppedge is expected to make a ruling on how Christopher will be sentenced on June 10.
A memorial service for Heather was held on Sep. 28, 2018.
“Heather touched the lives of everyone she met. Her life in Freeport was surrounded by incredible friends who loved and supported her. She was very active in her church, United Presbyterian Church, Freeport. Heather, ‘Rockstar’ was the manager at a Hilldale restaurant and was such a positive light to all she came into contact with. Anyone who met her instantly was a friend,” read Heather’s obituary posted by the Colonial Funeral Home & Crematory located in McHenry.
Christopher is currently incarcerated at the McHenry County Adult Correctional Facility in Woodstock without bond.
