Man fatally shot in West Dundee fitness center parking lot mourned by family and friends

Sherron Sharpe, 36, of Poplar Grove was identified by his family as the victim shot to death in the parking lot of Esporta Fitness in West Dundee.
WEST DUNDEE — On Wednesday, April 13, at 5:24 p.m., West Dundee Police officers were dispatched to Esporta Fitness (400 N. 8th Street), a fitness center that operates under the LA Fitness umbrella of clubs.
Upon arrival at the scene, first responders located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound in the parking lot of the fitness center.
Emergency personnel attempted to resuscitate the victim, but their attempts proved to be unsuccessful.
The West Dundee Police Department, along with assistance from the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force, are reportedly questioning two individuals believed to be involved with what they allege to be a targeted shooting.
Anthony Gorski, West Dundee’s chief of police, told area residents that there is no current evidence linking the incident to any other similar crimes, however, other media outlets have reported that this incident may have a possible connection to another fatal shooting that occurred in Elgin on April 10.
Since the fatal shooting in West Dundee, friends and family of the male victim have come forward to identify him as 36-year-old Sherron Sharpe, of Poplar Grove.
According to Kane County court records, Sharpe has had quite a few run-ins with the law. Back in 2006, Sharpe even made headlines after being accused of attempting to run over an Elgin Police Department officer with his vehicle.
As a result of his long-standing criminal history, Sharpe has had to serve time in the Illinois Department of Corrections on multiple occasions for other felony offenses.
Sharpe was due to be back in Kane County court on May 19, for a status hearing on a mob action charge, a Class 4 felony, that was filed on Nov. 8, 2020, according to court records.
Despite his history of crime, Sharpe has been described as a loving father, who also cared deeply for his parents and other family members.
Gorski stated that investigators believe that there is no general threat to the public, but are asking anyone with information regarding the shooting incident to contact the West Dundee Police Department Investigations Division at 847-551-3810.
Esporta Fitness closed for the remainder of the night on April 13. The investigation remains ongoing.
