
HHS boys tennis secures 3 wins
HUNTLEY – The Huntley boys tennis team is off to a good start this season as they secured victories in each of their first three dual matches.
Huntley downed Rockton Hononegah 4-2 April 16 after beating McHenry on April 12 and St. Charles East both by 6-1 tallies.
“The win over Hononegah was a good match against a very well-coached team,” Huntley boys tennis coach Barry Wells said.
The Red Raiders used a sweep in doubles matches to carry the day April 16 against the visiting Indians. In fact, the doubles duos are undefeated in the early going,
On Saturday morning, the No. 1 doubles tandem of Matt Grubbs and Ben Hein prevailed 6-1, 6-0; while the No. 2 duo of Varun Paruth and Jonathon Steic won 6-1, 6-4; the No. 3 pairing of Jack Coleman and Colin Stanley rallied from a 3-6 loss in the first set for a 6-4, 6-2 win and at No, 4 doubles, Jack Galloway and Ryan Krak posted a 6-4, 6-4 triumph.
In singles play, No, 1 Ani Mehra lost 4-6, 5-7 and at No. 2, Frankie Scarpelli lost 2-6, 5-7.
Against McHenry in the Fox Valley Conference opener April 7, the Red Raiders won all but second singles. At No. 1 singles, At No. 1 singles, Aryaan Khalil won 6-1, 6-4; At No. 3, Scarpelli prevailed 6-3, 6-0.
In doubles, Hein and Grubbs won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1; at No. 2, it was Coleman and Stec with a 6-2, 6-2 verdict; at No. 3, Ishaan Trivedi and Stanley came back after a 4-6 loss with 6-2, 6-2 wins; Galloway and Krak recorded a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4 doubles.
