Carpentersville man arrested for an Elgin shooting incident that killed two men
ELGIN — The Elgin Police Department has identified 34-year-old Keith A. Johnson from the 0-100 block of North Grove Street in Carpentersville, as the primary suspect of a shooting incident that occurred in Elgin last month.
On April 10 at approximately 1:59 a.m., Elgin Police officers responded to the 900 block of Congdon Avenue for a reported shooting.
Upon their arrival on the scene, officers located and transported five injured subjects to area hospitals. Police were later notified of a sixth individual with injuries who had self-transported himself to a local hospital.
Following the shooting incident, it was reported that 32-year-old Jonathan King and 19-year-old Jaysin Rodriguez, both of Elgin, had succumbed to their gunshot-related injuries.
The Elgin Police Department states that the preliminary information received by officers revealed that several subjects were gathering at a residence, which subsequently caused injury to some individuals who were struck by gunfire as the result of an altercation that broke out.
Detectives from the Major Investigations Division with assistance from the Special Investigations Division diligently investigated the incident, which eventually led them to Johnson as a person of interest.
An arrest warrant for Johnson was issued soon after where he was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, a Class X felony, and four counts of attempted first-degree murder, also a Class X felony.
Johnson was located in the 0-100 block of Evergreen Lane in Carpentersville and taken into custody without incident on April 30 at approximately 2:00 p.m., by the Major Investigation Division and Special Investigation Division.
The Carpentersville Police Department also assisted with the arrest.
On May 2, Johnson was transported to the Cook County 3rd District Courthouse in Rolling Meadows, where he appeared before a judge later that afternoon, according to the Elgin Police Department.
The judge overseeing Johnson’s case set his next court appearance for May 27 at 9 a.m. at the Cook County 3rd District Courthouse in Rolling Meadows.
Johnson is currently being held without bond.
“We appreciate the Elgin community’s patience as detectives worked diligently to make an arrest. We also appreciate the community members who provided information to assist in the investigation,” said Elgin Police Chief Ana Lalley.
