
HHS softball squad closes in on goals
HUNTLEY – The Huntley softball team closed in on 20 victories as well as a Fox Valley Conference championship in recent games.
HHS secured a 19-5 overall record, 13-0 FVC with a 4-0 win over Honnegah 4-0 on May 4 and a 10-0 FVC triumph at Cary-Grove May 5. The Red Raiders led second place McHenry, 8-3 league, with five FVC games left.
The Red Raiders shutout the NIC-9 leaders when Hononegah visited HHS. A three-run home run by junior Madison Smith provided a lead, Senior pitcher Jori Heard recorded 14 strikeouts.
At Cary, freshman catcher Michelle Rozanski helped an eight-hit attack with three RBIs in a two-hit game. Rozanski has had a stellar season behind the plate with a 1.000 fielding percentage.
Reese Hunkins contributed two hits and scored two runs. Clara Hudgens scored four runs.
HHS’s statistics leaders were: Heard paced batting average, 0,54; on-base, 0.541 and her pitching ERA was 0,54. Smith led in home runs with four while junior Katie Mitchell improved to 34 steals.
