
Eighth-inning win, no-hitter pace Red Raiders
HUNTLEY – The Huntley sixth-ranked Huntley softball team pushed across an eighth inning run to defeat Kaneland, 1-0, at the Marengo Invite May 7. The offense was paced by junior Reese Hunkins who gained a walk and a key Kaneland error led to Alyssa Ekstrom’s game-winning run.
Senior Jori Heard threw her fifth no-hitter with 16 strikeouts and two walks.
In an 11-2 win over Oswego at Marengo Saturday, Heard led the offense with four hits and four RBIs. Katie Mitchell was 3 for 5. Julianna Meade was the winning pitcher as she threw a six-hitter and fanned eight.
HHS stood at 21-5, 13-0 FVC, As of May 9, there was one more league week of FVC games. The Red Raiders were ranked fifth in Chicago, sixth in Class 4A and 10th in Illinois by MaxPreps.
At the plate, Heard has a .475 batting average; .541 on-base percentage; 808 slugging percentage to lead the team.
