HUNTLEY – The Huntley baseball squad honored its seniors and won two more games as the De Kalb Regional neared. HHS will face Rockford Jefferson at DeKalb at 4:30 p.m. May 25.
HHS, 27-4, turned back Marengo, 6-1, on senior day May 16,. The Red Raiders’ roster includes 17 Class of 2022 members. Non-conference victories also were earned over Marist, 9-2 May 17 and against Palatine, 6-5, May 20.
“Over the past few years, it has been a tradition for our seniors to play one last time together,” Huntley coach Andy Jakubowski said. :”Obviously it was a little more difficult getting 15 players in but they did a tremendous job. I thought on the defensive end it was one of our better efforts with 21 putouts and 11 assists. Ryan Admik, Josh Good and Lucas Goldstein were strong up the middle and Joe Williams dug out some balls at first base to preserve the victory.”
Senior pitcher Peyton Barr got the nod to start the game and gained his second win. Seniors Harout Meyer and Mike Vitellaro pitched in relief. Seniors Nick Martino and Ryan Kelly both had two-hit games.
The Red Raiders beat Marist in a non-league game 9-2. Adam Guazzo started and gained the pitching win, his eighth, on a seven strikeout, three-hit effort.
The thriller came in the 6-5 win over Palatine. Senior Brandon Hanley collected four hits and two RBIs; AJ Putty had a two-RBI hit; Brayden Bakes was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one walk. HHS rallied with three runs in the fifth and two in the seventh inning.
