Girls lacrosse made progress with post-season win
HUNTLEY – The Huntley girls lacrosse team achieved a preseason goal before the season came to an end at the Class 3A Hoffman Estates Sectional.
The Red Raiders held off rival Barrington, 10-8, in the first round May 23. Crystal Lake Central then ended the Red Raiders’ season with a 14-4 win May 25.
Huntley head coach Joe Domka summed up the 2022 season.
“We knew it was going to be a tough game as CLC is one of the better opponents we play,” the coach said. “We as coaches are very proud of this group of girls as they have never gone this deep in the playoffs before. This is by far the best season Huntley High School has had in varsity girls lacrosse.”
The team was happy with its first round win over Barrington.
“The team played great in the second half,,” Domka said. “They really came together to work as a team and it showed, being able to come back from being down in the first half. Key goals were done by Kyleigh Higgins, Ashley Zolen, and Ally Schneider. Our key on defense was really locking them down on quick fast-paced possessions. I would say our star defensive player was our goalie, Caysie Vargas. She had an insanely good game.”
Barrington was seeded fourth to Huntley’s fifth.
“The team was so motivated to prove a point that we could beat Barrington after their forfeit against us earlier in the season.” Domka said, “Having proof that we could beat them was a huge motivation for us. It also motivated us that they got ranked higher than us in the seeding. We thought we should have been ranked higher and that game proved it.”
