
Girls soccer wins first playoff clash
HUNTLEY – Hunley girls soccer team advanced to the regional final with a 6-1 first round win over Round Lake in the Red Raiders’ regional. The Red Raiders were ousted by Lake Zurich 4-2 for the Huntley regional crown May 23.
The Red Raiders’ season ended with an 8-11-1 record.
Against Round Lake, they scored four goals in the first 15 minutes and all by halftime.
Hanna Helzer scored two goals, including the first of the match while Gabrielle Farraj, Madison Cummings, Riley Chadwick and Ava Trudeau scored one goal each.
“I think scoring early fired us up,” HHS head coach Matt Lewandowski said.
Recent regular season matches included a 1-0 double overtime loss at Crystal Lake South May 9 and a 2-1 loss to Hononegah May 13.
