Carpentersville Police Department to hold memorial service for K9 that passed away
CARPENTERSVILLE — On June 6, the Carpentersville Police Department announced the untimely passing of a police dog named Blitz.
K9 Blitz had served as Officer Jason Caudle’s partner for almost six years and was about to turn eight on June 16.
According to the Carpentersville Police Department, Blitz was a pure-bred German Shepherd who was born in the Czech Republic and was specifically bred and trained to work as a police K9.
Blitz was brought to the U.S. when he was around 16-months-old, where he received his first 12 weeks of training at TOPS Kennel in Grayslake through their police K9 training program.
After the initial 12 weeks, Blitz was paired up with Caudle, who then went through eight weeks of training to bond and become Blitz’s handler.
Blitz was trained in narcotics detection, tracking, area searches, cadaver searches, suspect apprehension, and handler protection. He was often seen riding around in Caudle’s squad car, which was specifically designed for a K9.
The Carpentersville Police Department did not disclose any particular reason for Blitz’s passing, only calling his death unexpected.
A memorial service will be held for the K9 in front of the Carpentersville Village Hall located at 1200 L.W. Besinger Drive. The memorial service will take place on Wednesday, June 15, at 2 p.m.
As a final note, Blitz was not only praised for the work he did at the Carpentersville Police Department, but Caudle had previously reported that the K9 was a good house and family dog who loved to play with his chew toys or play fetch.
