
Red Raiders garner all-FVC baseball honors
Huntley’s baseball team placed six of its members on the all-Fox Valley Conference team as selected by league head coaches.
Red Raiders earning the accolade were: seniors Adam Guazzo and Brandon Hanley; juniors Brayden Bakes, Joe Garlin and Andrew Ressler and sophomore Malachi Paplanus.
The Huntley squad finished with a 31-5 record, won the FVC title with a 16-2 mark, In the Class 4A post-season, they won the De Kalb regional and beat Jacobs with a 10-1 win at the sectional semifinal before a 4-3 loss to eventual final four qualifier McHenry.
HHS head coach Andy Jakubowski, reached 390 career victories in guiding the Red Raiders and 485 wins overall.
Guazzo was the ace of the pitching staff as he posted a 10-0 record, in 59 innings, giving up 14 runs, 46 hits, 10 walks. He struck out 83 hitters and had a 1.424 ERA.
Ressler had a 2-2 record, in 41.2 innings. He gave up 43 hits, 31 runs, had 62 strikeouts, a 2.520 ERA.
Paplanus posted a 6-1 mark in 39 innings of work, surrendering 33 hits, 10 runs and had a 1.795 ERA.
At the plate, Bakes hit for a .444 batting average; with 44 hits, 17 doubles, 16 singles, 13 walks, 38 RBIs, 54 runs scored and hit 10 home runs.
Hanley hit .404, with 42 hits, 28 singles, 10 doubles, 32 RBIs, and 16 walks and four home runs.
Garlin hit .393, with 42 hits, 36 singles, four doubles, one triple, one home run, pitched in 26 RBIs, and 37 runs scored.
HHS’s final rankings were fifth in Illinois, fifth for Class 4A and seventh in Chicagoland, according to MaxPreps.
FVC teams Crystal Lake South and McHenry advanced to the state final four in Joliet in Class 3A and 4A, but lost in the semifinal rounds and finished in fourth place.
