
Huntley man pronounced dead after Fourth of July ATV accident
HUNTLEY — The Kane County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) announced via a press release that 24-year-old Elpidio Marcelo of the 41W400 block of Powers Road, sustained fatal injuries following an ATV accident in unincorporated Rutland Township.
At approximately 12:45 a.m. on July 4, authorities were dispatched near the 18N800 block of Ridgefield Boulevard, where Marcelo had been driving his ATV vehicle when it left the roadway and hit a mailbox, stated the KCSO.
The ATV continued traveling northbound after hitting the mailbox, where it subsequently crashed into a tree on the property.
The KCSO said that Marcelo and an unidentified 21-year-old female passenger from Kenosha, Wisconsin, were both taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Marcelo was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. Authorities state that the female victim remains hospitalized.
According to the KCSO, neither Marcelo nor the woman were wearing helmets at the time of the incident.
It is yet to be determined whether drugs or alcohol were factors in causing the accident, however, an investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
