Man shot inside an East Dundee bar; suspect identified
EAST DUNDEE — Chief of Police for the East Dundee Police Department, James Kruger, issued a statement regarding an incident that occurred inside a well-known bar in the area.
Kruger stated that on July 10 at approximately 1:50 a.m., police officers were patrolling the area of the East Dundee north municipal lot, located just north of Route 72, following a previous service call in that location.
It was during their patrol that East Dundee police officers discovered an adult male staggering in the area of Water Street between Carol’s Corner bar (5 E Main Street) and the AT&T Maintenance Building (60 Water Street).
The man was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, where upon further investigation, it was determined that there had been a physical altercation inside Carol’s Corner bar between the victim and another male just moments earlier.
“The physical fight led to one of the combatants to pull out a gun and shoot the other combatant while inside of the establishment,” said Kruger in a press release. “The victim was shot at least twice in the upper chest or shoulder region, possibly with a 9mm pistol.”
The victim was treated by East Dundee Fire Protection District paramedics and was subsequently transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin.
He was later transferred to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he remains in stable condition.
Authorities say that the suspect immediately fled the scene when officers approached the area and were attending to the victim’s wounds.
Before Carol’s Corner could report the shooting incident, officers in the area had already located the victim.
The West Dundee Police Department was assisted by Carpentersville police officers in their attempts to locate the suspect.
According to Kruger, the suspect has been identified by authorities as a 32-year-old man with addresses in Hoffman Estates, Schaumburg, Elgin, Carpentersville, and other areas.
The victim is described as a 33-year-old male with a last known address out of Loves Park who frequents the Algonquin area.
Investigators believe that the victim and suspect may casually know each other as patrons of the bar.
The Kane County Major Crimes Taskforce was called to assist with evidence collection and witness statements.
At this time, East Dundee police officers are reviewing video surveillance from the area and coordinating with the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office. Due to that fact, authorities are not releasing the identities of either the suspect or the victim.
“Carol’s Corner appreciates all of our patrons and the good times that are had here. We are saddened and disgusted by the events that occurred here last night (June 10),” representatives of the bar said in a Facebook statement. “Thankfully, everyone is okay. We have re-opened for business and will see you all soon!”
