Woodstock armed robbery suspects found in Wisconsin; charges against the juveniles still pending
WOODSTOCK — On Sunday, July 10, at approximately 1:30 a.m., officers from the Woodstock Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery in a Circle K convenience store located at 155 South Eastwood Drive.
According to authorities, three armed, masked subjects entered the store, while a fourth suspect remained in the driver’s seat of their getaway vehicle.
After having entered the store, the three suspects displayed firearms, however, authorities were not able to determine if their weapons were real or fake.
The suspects then proceeded to demand cash from the sole Circle K clerk on duty during that time.
Having obtained cash and other store products, the three suspects exited the store and fled northbound in the vehicle they arrived in.
Following the incident, the Woodstock Police Department’s Investigations Division took the lead in gathering evidence from the scene, while also getting assistance from patrol units, who helped search for the getaway vehicle within Woodstock.
Despite their best efforts, Woodstock Police officers were not able to locate the vehicle, which led them to alert neighboring agencies of the vehicle’s description.
The vehicle was not able to be located the night of the incident.
A few days later on July 12, the getaway vehicle was finally able to be located after it crashed in West Allis, Wisconsin.
As a result of the crash, three subjects were taken into custody by the West Allis Police Department. The fourth subject in the car was able to elude capture by law enforcement.
At a different time, Woodstock Police detectives were able to process the car for evidence. Detectives also recovered proceeds from the Circle K armed robbery incident.
The subjects arrested were all juvenile males, according to authorities. They were eventually released to their parents by the West Allis Police Department, who were not aware of the armed robbery that was being investigated in Woodstock at the time of their release.
Woodstock Police Chief of Police John Lieb states that the robbery is still currently under an active and open investigation.
“Approval for charges against the suspects will be sought from the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office at the conclusion of the WPD’s investigation,” said Lieb.
