McHenry County State’s Attorney approves several felony charges against shooter involved in Huntley incident
HUNTLEY — As reported in My Huntley News, an offender who was previously believed to be a Hispanic male, drove his white, four-door sedan to a house in the 11800 block of Cape Cod Lane, where he proceeded to shoot at two adult male residents in what has been described as a targeted attack.
The shooter, now identified as an African-American male, fled the scene of the incident before authorities arrived in the area.
His vehicle was later found in Bartlett; however, the suspect took off before authorities arrived, and is believed to have been involved in a Bartlett carjacking incident that occurred at approximately 5:00 p.m. on July 18.
In an update to community members, Huntley Police Department Deputy Chief Linda Hooten announced that several felony charges have been approved by the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office against Lewis C. McCracken, 27, of the 200 block of Villa Street in Elgin.
After an extensive investigation by several local law enforcement agencies, McCracken was identified as the shooter of the July 18 Huntley incident. Warrants were issued for his arrest, but as of July 19, he has not yet been taken into custody.
While in Bartlett, McCracken and a white male suspect are alleged to have approached a victim who was sitting inside of a 2000 Dodge Ram work vehicle in the 200 block of Miles Parkway.
McCracken and the other suspect threatened the male victim with what was believed to be a firearm. McCracken subsequently stole the vehicle and fled the scene. The other suspect fled on foot and was last seen heading northbound from the scene.
The Bartlett Police Department announced that on July 19, they were able to apprehend the white male suspect.
The vehicle McCracken stole was later recovered in Addison, though his whereabouts are still unknown at the time of this reporting.
McCracken is being charged with four counts of attempted murder, a Class X felony; one count of aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony; and one count of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, a Class 2 felony. His bond is set at $750,000.
McCracken is described as being 5-feet, 7-inches tall, 175 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black tank top, light-colored shorts, and light-colored shoes.
