Streamwood man killed in a multi-vehicle Carpentersville traffic accident
CARPENTERSVILLE — On Tuesday, July 19, at approximately 6:58 p.m., Carpentersville Police Department officers responded to the intersection of Route 25 and Helm Road for a reported traffic crash that involved six vehicles.
The Carpentersville Fire Department was also on the scene and transported four injured individuals to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin.
One of those victims, a 27-year-old male that was later identified as Jamie X. McDonald of Streamwood, had to be extricated from his vehicle, according to local authorities.
McDonald later succumbed to his injuries sustained in the traffic accident, having passed away at Sherman Hospital.
The other three victims were reported as having sustained injuries that were considered to be non-life threatening.
Preliminary results of the investigation revealed that the driver of a Ford F-150 responsible for the accident, Hector Salgado of McHenry, failed to stop for the vehicle in front of him.
The vehicle Salgado crashed into was stopped for the red light at the intersection. The traffic crash caused a chain reaction which resulted in a multi-vehicle accident.
Authorities issued Salgado two citations; however, a further investigation is still being conducted by the Carpentersville Police Department in partnership with the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team.
McDonald’s friends and family gathered in Carpentersville on July 20, to honor his life with a candlelight vigil, with attendees also bringing flowers and other mementos to pay their respects to a life that was lost too soon.
According to a friend of his, McDonald was on his way to visit her house, which was approximately three minutes away from the scene of the accident, when the traffic crash occurred.
“My teddy bear left me today [July 19]. I’m so heartbroken. (Jamie McDonald) it really hurt me to see you like that last night and I enjoyed the time God allowed me to have with you. I will love and cherish every memory we made together,” stated McDonald’s girlfriend, Jasmine Brookins, in a memorial message she wrote about him on Facebook.
Based on McHenry County Court records, Salgado has had multiple run-ins with the law mostly related to traffic violations, which include having received numerous past citations for speeding.
