Update: Sole survivor of a devastating I-90 car accident near McHenry County succumbs to his injuries
MCHENRY COUNTY — As reported in My Huntley News, on July 31 at approximately 2:11 a.m., 32-year-old Thomas Dobosz of Rolling Meadows, his wife Lauren, 31, and five children were traveling westbound on Interstate 90 (I-90) near milepost 33.5, when their blue 2005 Chevrolet Full-Size van was struck by a gray 2010 Acura TSX traveling in the wrong direction.
The driver of the Acura, 22-year-old Jennifer Fernandez of Carpentersville, as well as Lauren, the Dobosz’s four children, and a friend of one of their children were pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident.
Dobosz had sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to an area hospital, where he was admitted into the ICU.
On Aug. 3, Lisa Torres, a friend of the Dobosz family, wrote on the Go Fund Me page she started to raise funds for the family, that unfortunately, Dobosz had passed away as a result of his injuries sustained in the accident.
“Tom has gained his angel wings and is now with his amazing wife Lauren and precious children. We ask that you keep this family in your prayers,” wrote Torres in an update.
As of the time of this reporting, the Go Fund Me account for the Dobosz family has raised over $93,000, far bypassing its initial goal of $50,000.
In addition to that fundraiser, Lauren’s parents, Lonnie and Eva Johns have also set up a Go Fund Me account to help the family with expenses.
“We are at a loss for words for this tragic event. We have lost our beautiful daughter, Lauren, and our precious grandkids,” wrote Lauren’s parents on the Go Fund Me page.
The Johns have raised over $23,000 on the Go Fund Me they started, which is over their initial goal of $5,000.
