Girls golf’s depth readies for FVC title run
HUNTLEY – Huntley’s girls golf team hopes to continue its winning ways in the Fox Valley Conference in 2022.
The Red Raiders prepared for league dual matches with three tournaments. The Red Raiders were runner-up at their own 14-team tournament at Pinecrest Golf Club Aug.18 after two fourth-place finishes at other tournaments.
“I am very pleased with the way we’re starting out,” HHS coach Ann Christiansen said.
The Red Raiders squad placed two in the top-10 to earn medals at Pinecrest Golf Club. Junior Aubrey Dingbaum shot a round of 40 for fourth place and sophomore Maddie Sloan fired a 41 for eighth place, as decided by scorecard ties.
“Dingbaum and Sloan both played a lot of summer tournaments in the McHenry County Jr. Golf Association and Illinois Junior Golf Association, which is what you need to do,” Christiansen said.
Contributing to the hosts’ effort at their invite also included: junior Kylie Szymczak who shot a 45; Samantha Campanelli, 50 and senior Abby Painer, 51. HHS finished second to Rockford Guilford in team scores Thursday at Pinecrest with a 176 total.
Earlier tournaments included a fourth-place team effort at Rockford Guilford Aug. 15 with Dingbaum leading the way with a seventh-place overall finish. Dingbaym’s 82 paced the Red Raiders to a fourth-place finish at Belvidere in the opener Aug. 12.
Also hoping to have an impact for HHS are junior Kaitlyn Busky; freshman Ava Lodewyck; senior Molly Winters.
Christiansen said the Red Raiders’ goals are to defend their FVC crown, (both tournament and overall) that they won in 2021 and 2019. Dingbaum was eighth at the FVC conference tournament, fifth at McHenry County Tournament and shot an 82 at sectional in 2021.
