Alsip man sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to DUI that seriously injuring a woman in a Crystal Lake crash
MCHENRY COUNTY — On Aug. 23, McHenry County State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally announced that Ryan B. Hurst, 39, of Alsip was officially sentenced to serve three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) by McHenry County Circuit Court Judge Michael Coppedge.
According to Kenneally, Hurst pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated driving under the influence with a blood alcohol level over 0.08, which is a Class 4 felony.
Back in September 2020, the Crystal Lake Police Department was dispatched to the intersection of Route 14 and Route 31 for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Upon their arrival at the scene, officers discovered that Hurst was driving his 1995 Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound on Route 14 when he collided into the rear of a stopped 2014 Ford Escape.
Hurst’s 28-year-old motorcycle passenger, a woman from McHenry, suffered serious injuries and had to be transported to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital, where she was later airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
Hurst was also transported to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The 63-year-old driver of the Ford Escape, a man from Fox River Grove, suffered no injuries as a result of the accident.
Responding authorities explained that Hurst was attempting to maneuver between two cars which ultimately caused the crash.
Based on the investigation on-scene, officer’s observations, and hospital lab results, Hurst was placed under arrest and originally charged with five counts of aggravated driving under the influence and one count of aggravated driving while having a revoked license.
Hurst was also found to have cocaine and cannabis in his system at the time of the crash.
He is currently still confined at the McHenry County Adult Correctional Facility in Woodstock until he can be transferred to IDOC.
