Red Raiders hope for bounce back effort
HUNTLEY – Huntley’s football team is aiming to bounce back for its next Fox Valley Conference football clash, at Burlington Central Sept. 16.
The Red Raiders were rolled over by Prairie Ridge35-7, for their first loss of the season Sept. 9 for a 2-1 record.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Wolves just kept coming at HHS’s squad as QB Tyler Vasey led the 3-0 Wolves to score 35 points in 25 minutes of play. The Wolves outgained the Red Raiders, 481-234 in total yards. Vasey finished with 226 yards rushing on 26 carries, two touchdowns and threw one TD.
Huntley’s score came on a three-yard touchdown run by Haiden Janke. Janke came in with 350 total rushing yards, ranked 13th in Illinois by MaxPreps, but was held to 43 yards in 13 carries by the Wolves.
Huntley’s 65-yard touchdown drive was set up by an interception by Zach Garifo. The Huntley defense also recorded a forced fumble by Justin Jacobsen as well as James Lang but could not score points from those chances. Joey Arvidson recorded 11 tackles and Dashaun Manning had 10.5 total tackles.
“We played more their game than them playing ours,” Huntley coach Mike Naymola said. “We don’t expect perfection, but we had penalties, dropped some passes and won the turnover battle but did not capitalize. They do a lot of things well for a reason. We’ll bounce back next week at Burlington Central.”
