Lake in the Hills Police Department continues to investigate a serious semi-trailer accident
LAKE IN THE HILLS — Following reports of several road closures on north and southbound Randall Road from Algonquin Road to Commercial Drive, the Lake in the Hills Police Department was finally able to give an update as to what occurred.
On Wednesday, Sept. 14, at approximately 11:04 a.m., members of the Lake in the Hills Police Department and the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District were dispatched to the intersection of Randall Road and Algonquin Road in regards to a vehicle accident involving a semi-trailer.
Numerous witnesses on the scene as well as authorities reported that a flatbed semi-tractor/trailer, described as a blue 2014 KW tractor, was driving southbound on Randall Road, approaching Algonquin Road, while carrying a load of concrete slabs.
Police officers state that the driver of the trailer stopped, which caused the load on the back of the truck to shift forward, entering the cab of the tractor through the back window.
The driver of the truck was subsequently pinned by the cement slabs to the inside of the cab.
The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District extricated the male driver, who also happened to be the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Life-saving measures were performed on the victim while waiting on a medical flight team to arrive at the scene of the accident.
The driver was eventually transferred onto a LifeStar helicopter, where the medical flight team took over his care as he was flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
At approximately 11:40 a.m., the Lake in the Hills Police Department issued a Nixle traffic advisory to subscribers to notify motorists about the road closures in that area.
The area where the accident occurred was closed for several hours, however, a second Nixle message was sent at approximately 1:10 p.m. notifying residents that Randall Road northbound at Algonquin Road was reopened.
Randall Road remained closed southbound from Polaris Drive to Algonquin Road for several more hours.
The Lake in the Hills Traffic Accident Investigation Unit was also on scene, assisting officers.
The accident remains under investigation at this time, stated the Lake in the Hills Police Department. Additionally, no citations have been issued as a result of the accident.
“The Lake in the Hills Police Department would like to thank the Algonquin and Huntley Police Department for their assistance with traffic control, Whitey’s Towing Service for their help in the extrication and rescue of the driver, the Illinois State Police Truck Enforcement Unit for their assistance on the scene, LifeStar for assistance with prompt medical service, and the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District for coordinating the medical assistance with LifeStar,” said Lake in the Hills Police Department’s Public Information Officer Amanda Schmitt in a statement.
Neither the identity or the current condition of the victim has not been made public at this time.
