Red Raiders tennis squad gains second at Lakes
HUNTLEY – The Huntley girls tennis team fared well as the Red Raiders finished second at the 14-team Lakes Invitational Sept. 24 at Lake Villa. Huntley chalked up 26 team points, second to Rockford Auburn’s 27.
“It was a very good day for us,” HHS coach Barry Wells said. “Auburn is a very good team and we will see them again at sectional. Hopefully we can get the better of them there.”
The Red Raiders’ second doubles team of Emily Chong and Delaney Stock posted a 3-0 tournament and first place. The first doubles team of Elaina Hibbeler and Kate Burkey was 2-1 for second place.
In singles, Huntley’s Ella Doughty finished 3-1 in third place at first singles and Ari Patel was 2-1 at second singles and ended in second place.
“The second doubles team of Chong and Stock continued their hot streak as they have lost one match all year and are 23-1,” Wells said. “First doubles of Hibbeler and Burkey played great in the semifinals and dominated a good Grant team but could not get the gold against Auburn in the finals.”
Huntley cruised to a 7-0 win over Hampshire Sept. 22 in Fox Valley Conference play. The Red Raiders stand at 14-1, 5-0 FVC record for duals.
Huntley hopes to defend its conference championship at the FVC tournament Oct. 7 at Cary-Grove and Crystal Lake Central. The Class 2A sectional is Oct. 14 and 15 hosted by Machessney Park Harlem. The state finals are Oct. 20 at Buffalo Grove.
