Huntley High School honors the memory of a long-time educator through a Pink Out Celebration and Education scholarship
HUNTLEY — It was recently announced that Huntley High School (HHS) will be partnering with the Huntley 158 Education Foundation to raise awareness and funds in memory of the late Jennifer Heuck.
Heuck was a long-time educator and physical education department chair at the district, who unfortunately lost her battle with breast cancer last fall.
Through fundraising efforts during October, Huntley Community School District 158 (D158) will be working to raise money to benefit a scholarship in Heuck’s name.
According to the district, the scholarship will be awarded by the Education Foundation and will be given to an HHS student who shows an interest in the field of education.
On Friday, Oct. 21, HHS will be hosting a Friday Night Lights football game, dubbed the annual “Pink Out” game, in honor of breast cancer awareness.
Attendees of the game will see the HHS varsity football team face off against Crystal Lake South High School’s team at 7 p.m.
The district states that Heuck’s family will also be in attendance at the game. Heuck’s daughters, Hannah Blakey and Emma are both graduates of Crystal Lake South High School which is part of Community High School District 155.
To show their support for the Heuck family, both Huntley High School and Crystal Lake South High School are teaming up ahead of the game to raise awareness and honor the victims of breast cancer.
“In an effort to commemorate Heuck’s impact on Huntley High School since she began her teaching there in 1997, ‘Pink Out’ shirts have been designed in her honor and will be on sale to the entire Crystal Lake and Huntley area community ahead of the game,” said the district’s Director of Communications and Public Relations Alex LeMoine, in a press release statement.
All students, parents, and community members are invited to purchase a shirt and join in the celebration on Oct. 21.
Students and individuals who purchase a shirt ahead of time will receive free admission to the game at HHS. All fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness and to celebrate Heuck.
“Mrs. Heuck’s impact on our student body and our staff at Huntley High School over the years was tremendous,” said D158 Superintendent Scott Rowe. “She was a source of strength and inspiration to so many, and I know she would be proud to see her memory celebrated through our students this way. We are forever grateful to the entire Heuck family for their continued contributions to our school community.”
T-shirts cost $10 and are available for purchase at this link.
