D158 Board of Education member announces resignation after six years of service
HUNTLEY — As of Oct. 21, Huntley Community School District 158 (D158) Board of Education (BOE) member Lesli Melendy has resigned from her position as a board member due to her family’s relocation to an area outside of Huntley.
According to the district, Melendy has been a valued member of the BOE since being appointed back in 2016.
During her time on the board, Melendy has continuously worked to put students of D158 first while also advocating for innovation and growth across the school district.
Her dedication to D158 families and her passion for student success has been a hallmark of her time in the district, stated Alex LeMoine, director of communications and public relations for D158.
“It has been an honor to be of service to a community that has shaped over 20 years of my family’s life here in Huntley,” said Melendy. “I will always cherish the opportunity to see our community, students, and schools grow to be the beacon of innovation and meaningful learning that they are today.”
For some background on Melendy, she and her family have been residents of Huntley since 1998, with her children having graduated from D158 schools.
Additionally, Melendy had been an integral part of the district’s endeavors during her tenure on the board.
Some of her accomplishments over the past 24 years include her having worked in multiple D158 schools, serving as the president of both the Chesak Martin PTA (Parent Teacher Association) and the Marlowe PTO (Parent Teacher Organization), as well as has worked to assist the district in furthering its anti-bullying committee.
Melendy has also spent time as a coach and as a board member of the Huntley Cheer Association, where she founded the first Sparkle cheer team, a cheerleading squad for special needs students.
“On behalf of Huntley 158, I want to thank Mrs. Melendy for her many years of invaluable service and leadership on our board. We wish the Melendy family all the best as they continue on to an exciting new chapter,” said D158 Superintendent Scott Rowe. “I am so grateful for the consistent leadership and support that each of our board members provides to the community and I look forward to continuing that trend as a new board member begins their tenure.”
As of current, the district has been accepting applications for all interested community members who wish to apply for a seat on the BOE.
Interested individuals have until 3 p.m. on Nov. 2 to apply. To learn more about the application process, applicants are invited to visit the district’s website for further details.
