
Red Raiders runners sweep regional
HUNTLEY – Huntley’s cross country teams both celebrated as champions of the IHSA Class 3A Regional meet Oct. 22 hosted by Machesney Park Harlem.
The HHS girls finished with 15 points to top the field while the boys won with 63 points. The boys and girls continue with the Class 3A Lake Park Sectional in Roselle Oct. 29, seeking spots at the state championship races at Detweiller Park in Peoria Nov. 5.
Breanna Burak won the girls meet honors as she crossed the finish line first; Brittney Burak was fourth and Molly Allen’s fifth for all-region. Guillermina-Gimenez Cunat was 11th and Ava Allison 13th.
Tommy Nitz finished third with while Ty Rasmussen was next, fifth, for all-region honors and Zach Zuzzio ended eighth. Luke Grubbs was 19th and Hudson Fisher was 28th.
“Our top three girls runners, Breanna Burak, Brittney Burak and Molly Allen, did a great job setting the tone,” HHS head coach Matt Kaplan said. “Guillermina-Gimenez Cunat and Ava Allison ran solid races.”
“I’m very pleased with getting our first three boys, Nitz, Rasmussen and Zuzzio, in the top 10,” Kaplan said. “On a day when our boys could have performed better nobody quit and found a way to win.”
