Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office charges Lake in the Hills man with first-degree murder

LAKE IN THE HILLS—The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office recently charged 23-year-old Dru K. Jarvis of the 1300 block of Cunat Court in Lake in the Hills, with two counts of first-degree murder.

According to Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser, on the morning of Aug. 22, 2020, Jarvis was a passenger in a white sedan that was traveling south on Route 31 (North State Street) in Elgin.

At the same time, a light blue Mini Cooper was also traveling in the same direction. The passenger of that car was 41-year-old Elgin resident Francisco Trujillo-Uscanga.

Upon arriving near the intersection of Kimball Street, the white sedan pulled alongside the Mini Cooper, where Jarvis proceeded to fire multiple gunshots at the vehicle.

Trujillo-Uscanga was struck by the gunfire in the torso and died shortly after being transported to AMITA Health St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin.

The driver of the Mini Cooper, an unidentified male, was also taken to a local hospital, however, his injuries were considered non-life threatening, according to responding officers on the scene.

Mosser stated that the two victims were on their way home from a Huntley area restaurant where they worked as cooks.

In addition to being charged with first-degree murder, Jarvis was also charged with attempted first-degree murder, a Class X felony; armed violence, a Class X felony; and unlawful possession of a weapon by a street gang member, a Class 2 felony.

Jarvis’ bail is set at $750,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 7 at 9 a.m. in Courtroom 319 at the Kane County Judicial Center.

The Elgin Police Department also assisted in this investigation.
