Shop with a Cop of Dundee Township hopes to raise additional funds to serve underprivileged kids this holiday season
DUNDEE TOWNSHIP — For years now, a nonprofit organization known as Shop with a Cop (SWAC) of Dundee Township, has helped hundreds of underprivileged children throughout various Kane County communities celebrate the holiday season who otherwise would not be able to do so.
The program was started by former East Dundee Police Officer Louis Kloepper back in 2004. Kloepper was able to raise some funds to take 15 children out to eat breakfast followed by a shopping trip.
Today, children are selected for the program by schools, churches, and social services.
On the day of the event, uniformed officers from various local law enforcement agencies volunteer their time to be with the children for a breakfast meal, before heading off to the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Carpentersville for a morning of shopping with their law enforcement partner.
In addition to helping children in need have a memorable holiday season, SWAC also works to assist kids who have been impacted by catastrophic events, such as a house fire.
However, SWAC does not stop its work once the holidays are over. The organization sponsors year-round lunch programs throughout the area, which are coordinated by local churches.
Since SWAC solely relies on private donations, grants, and fundraisers to support underprivileged children in the area, they are hoping that community members can continue to assist in their mission by purchasing raffle tickets for this year’s event.
Individual tickets cost $5, but a bundle of five tickets can also be purchased for $20. The drawing for several prizes will be held on Dec. 2 at the West Dundee Village Hall (102 S 2nd Street) in conjunction with the village’s Dickens in Dundee event.
Winners do not need to be present to win, stated the Village of West Dundee. Interested individuals wanting to purchase raffle tickets can visit police departments in the following locations: Carpentersville, East Dundee, Gilberts, Pingree Grove, Sleepy Hollow, or West Dundee.
There will be six prize winners total, with prizes including winning $1,000 in cash, a PlayStation 5 game console with a game and extra controller included, a Samsung 58” 4K UHD smart television, and much more.
The organization will live stream the Dec. 2 raffle ticket drawing on their Facebook page.
