Huntley battalion chief retires after serving the community for 35 years
HUNTLEY — The Huntley Fire Protection District (HFPD) hosted a ceremony on Nov. 30 to honor the career of Battalion Chief David Eeg.
According to the HFPD, Eeg embarked on his firefighting career on a part-time basis back in 1987. Eeg originally had plans to work as an aerospace engineer, however, that changed after the 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger disaster.
Eeg’s history with Huntley extends far beyond the fire department as he has lived in the village since he was 14 years old and even graduated from Huntley High School.
He became a full fledge firefighter in 2001, and throughout the years, Eeg began to work his way through the ranks, eventually becoming a battalion chief in 2012.
Since that time, Eeg balanced a busy career in firefighting while living in the Huntley community with his wife, Kate, and six children.
The Huntley Police Department also extended its gratitude toward Eeg and his service to the community.
“Thank you for serving our community for 35 years. Always a friendly, welcoming face. You will be greatly missed by all of us here in the police department. We wish you all the best in your new adventure,” stated the Huntley Police Department on their Facebook page.
